Revitalize Your Skin With These Essential Oils

  • Some essential oils come from flowers like lavender, neroli, rosehip and geranium and some come from trees like sandalwood and cypress.
  • These essential oils have anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties that can help reduce the signs of aging and promote skin rejuvenation.
  • It’s best to apply a small amount of these oils inside the arm to test for allergies before applying on the face.

Age, sun exposure, diet, and lifestyle can make our skin mature and bring out the wrinkles, acne and dryness.  But there are ways to rejuvenate and bring back the skin’s fullness — by using essential oils.

Here are 11 essential oils for glowing, youthful skin:

1. Lemon oil

Combine lemon oil with plain water to make an antiseptic and antimicrobial facial to remove dead tissue, dirt and grime. It also lightens dark spots. Apply moisturizer to prevent skin from drying.

2. Rosemary oil

Rosemary essential oil has antibacterial properties against acne, helps improve blood and lymph circulation, flushes out toxins, and when mixed with coconut oil, minimizes wrinkles and stretch marks because it tightens skin.

3. Lavender oil

Aside from its lovely scent, lavender essential oil is a gentle yet powerful antioxidant that promotes faster skin healing and protects the skin from scarring.

4. Pomegranate seed oil

Pomegranate seed oil’s punicic acid and ellagic acid makes it anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and a natural antioxidant. The acids’ effects range from cell regeneration, promoting regeneration and elasticity, delays aging and protects against the sun and developing cancer.

5. Neroli oil

Did you know that Neroli oil is extracted from bitter orange flowers?  It is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Just dilute it in water to make a facial wash that is a powerful protection against acne.  Mix it with a mild organic skin cream and apply it on skin to improve skin elasticity and blood circulation.  It also lessens the appearance of stretch marks, acne scars, and skin blemishes.

6. Frankincense oil

Use Frankincense as an anti-aging astringent to tighten skin, fade age spots, blemishes, and uneven coloration, and lessen skin sagging and wrinkles.  Now we know that this oil extracted from the gum of a type of Boswellia tree is not just used for sacred ceremonies and rituals.

7. Apricot kernel oil

Apricot kernel oil contains gamma-linolenic acid that stimulates skin cell regeneration and Vitamins A and E for hydration.  It is also an antioxidant that prevents free radicals from damaging the skin.

8. Geranium oil

Geranium oil’s anti-inflammatory and tissue-regeneration properties make skin lighter in color, tighter, and smoother as it minimizes wrinkles.

9. Sandalwood oil

Sandalwood oil has anti-aging and skin restorative properties that helps smoothen skin, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and lessens skin scarring.  It is one of the relatively expensive oils as it comes from the heart of Sandalwood trees that grow in limited areas in the world.

10. Cypress oil

Cypress oil’s antimicrobial properties prevent skin infections.  As an astringent, it tightens skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties promote blood and lymph circulation reducing fluid retention that leads to face and extremities swelling, and eases pain from spider veins, varicose veins, and cellulite.

11. Rosehip seed oil

Rosehip seed oil’s retinoic acid reduces age spots, scars, and wrinkles as it encourages collagen production to restore elasticity and improve skin texture.
