How to Use Ginger for Weight Loss [Video]

  • Ginger contains compounds that are proven to benefit health and prevent obesity.
  • Ginger can be mixed with lemon extract, ACV, and green tea to boost its weight loss properties.
  • On its own, ginger can’t cause a significant drop in weight, so keeping an overall healthy lifestyle is still necessary.

Ginger is an everyday cooking and baking ingredient that offers several health benefits. Besides decreasing inflammation, stimulating digestion, and suppressing appetite, some people believe that ginger may also promote weight loss.

How ginger promotes weight loss

According to research, ginger’s antioxidant properties can control free radicals caused by obesity, and its anti-inflammatory properties can combat inflammation. While these properties don’t directly make you lose weight, they counter the side effects of being overweight.

But research also suggests that ginger could also play a role in weight loss. According to one study, ginger can make you feel fuller longer, while another study found that it has a positive impact on body weight and belly fat.

The compounds found in ginger also stimulate several biological activities in your body, like promoting faster digestion and metabolism. Research suggests that the gingerols compound in ginger stabilizes blood sugar levels, which can result in weight loss.

Lemon and ginger

Adding a little lemon extract to your ginger drink can help you stay hydrated and feeling full, and boost your immunity. To reap these benefits, drink a lemon-and-ginger drink two or three times a day.

On its own, apple cider vinegar (ACV) promotes weight loss, and blending it with ginger to make a drink boosts the anti glycemic and antioxidant effects of both ingredients. ACV also contains potent probiotics that can benefit your gut.

Make sure to cool your ginger tea before adding ACV as the high temperature may kill the probiotics in ACV. Mix a few drops of honey or lemon juice to your drink, and take before breakfast for maximum benefits.

Green tea and ginger

Like ACV, green tea also has weight loss properties by speeding up metabolism. Combine the powerful effects of green tea and ginger by adding ground ginger to hot green tea or steeping a ginger tea bag and a green tea bag together and drinking it once or twice a day.

Ginger juice is usually mixed with honey, lemon juice, and water to boost its hydrating, antioxidant, and immune-boosting properties. To make ginger juice, blend fresh, unpeeled chunks of ginger with about 1 cup of water. Mix the ginger extract and your other ingredients, and drink it once or twice a day.

According to research, ginger powder contains more shogaols, a compound that has cancer-fighting and anti-inflammatory properties than fresh ginger powder.

You can mix the ginger powder in water to make a drink, sprinkle it on your food, or take it in capsule form.

Most people can safely use ginger for weight loss. However, people with gallbladder disease should avoid as it causes an increased flow of bile from the gallbladder. If you’re pregnant, nursing, or taking blood-thinning medicines, consult your doctor before using ginger.
