Go organic.

Organic coffee is healthier and is produced and grown without chemicals and fertilizers. Also, avoid artificial sweeteners like vanilla syrups and flavored creamers. Swinney suggests using organic creams and milk produced from oats and nuts if you like to sweeten your coffee.

Choose fair-trade coffee.

Moreover, consider those coffee brands that aim to minimize their carbon footprint by decreasing their use of energy and resources in producing and preparing coffee products. Avoid replacing breakfast with coffee.

Many people have the habit of just drinking coffee for breakfast. According to Adina Pearson, a registered dietitian, coffee can be a stimulant and an appetite suppressant. While it can make you feel full for a time, it should not replace a meal. It would be best if you still eat a healthy meal during breakfast.

Opt for homemade lattes.

While coffees prepared at cafes look enticing, how they are made could not be that healthy. Ken Immer, Culinary Health Solution’s chief health officer shares that coffee shops use sanitizing solutions to clean the steamers they used in preparing coffees. While these solutions are not in large amounts, it can still get mixed up with your drinks. So to be at the cautious side, Immer recommends preparing your lattes at home.

Use filtered water and paper filters.

Although water gets boiled when brewing coffee, it is still recommended to use water that is filtered. Filtered water does not contain ingredients like copper, chlorine, and other contaminants, unlike tap and well water.

Besides, filtering your coffee using paper will ensure that unhealthy substances will be removed. Jill Weisenberg, a registered dietitian, and nutritionist explain that while reusable filters are good options, recyclable paper filters are better options for its effect on health.

Add cinnamon.

Cinnamons are known for their antioxidant properties, and adding it to your coffee can give an additional health boost. Swinney cites many studies proving cinnamon can lower blood sugar levels and can provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Replace Keurig Coffee Makers.

Keurig is a brewing machine that uses single-serve coffee containers. It may be a convenient and fast way to make coffee, but using it has terrible effects on the health and the environment. Molds and bacteria can grow in the not thoroughly cleaned water tanks. You get exposed to heated plastic cups, which is also destructive to the environment. Preparing coffee the conventional way is still the best.
